An electrode (35) has a middle section (36) with insulated conductors (1, 2, 3, 4) which jointly form a helix of the type of a multi-start thread, and an end section (37) which is provided with bare contacts (31, 32, 33, 34) which are intended to be inserted into a human or animal body. Each contact (31, 32, 33, 34) surrounds the central axis (38) of the helix and is, for example, formed by a bare conductor piece consisting in common with the relevant conductor (1, 2, 3, 4) of a single-piece body, and is for its part at least approximately helical. These contacts (31, 32, 33, 34) are offset coaxially relative to the helix formed by the insulated conductors (1, 2, 3, 4), and are offset along the central axis (38) thereof. Even if a plurality of contacts are present, the electrode (35) and its contacts (31, 32, 33, 34) can be effectively introduced into a body and are then very flexible and resistant to fatigue. <IMAGE>
