PURPOSE:A compound decomposale with energy is adsorbed in pores of porous glass and energy is applied to form a glass structure from the activated element by the energy and functional groups on the pore surface whereby the pores in the porous glass is effectively blocked. CONSTITUTION:Porous glass is allowed to adsorb a compound decomposable with energy in its pores. The compound is represented by the formula: MLn where M is an element which can form a three-dimensional network glass structure such as Si, P, B, As; L is H, halogen, alkyl; n is natural number. Then, the compound is given energy by irradiation with light or plasma to generate activated elements from the compound. The activated elements are allowed to bond to other activated elements one another or functional groups on the pore surfaces in three dimension to form a glass structure. Thus, high efficiency of glass pore blocking can be done without any adverse effect on functions given to the porous glass.
