PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a malodor, by providing a water stream type ejector for sucking a filter material and sludge and a cyclone type sand separator for taking in sludge and the filter material from upper flow to the lower part of a filter apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of a filter material and sludge is sucked and drawn out from the bottom part of a filter material accumulation layer 3 by a water stream type ejector 5. As water for operating the ejector 5, filtered treated water is used and introduced into the ejector 5 under pressure by a washing pump 4. The filter material and sludge pass through a rising pipe to enter a cyclone type sand separator 6. Conc. waste water of sludge is discharged from the upper flow of the sand separator and the filter material from the under flow thereof to be equally accumulated on the upper part of the filter material accumulation layer 3 by the action of a filter material distribution cone 7. Raw water is introduced under pressure from the interior of the filter material accumulation layer 3 and rises through the accumulation layer to be filtered.
