PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer excellent in plasticizer absorption and tensile strength, etc., of a molding, by polymerizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a gelatin dispersant and sodium lauryl sulfate or the like. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl monomer such as vinyl chloride or styrene is polymerized in the presence of a gelatin dispersant (e.g., acid-treated gelatin) and sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate. The purpose vinyl polymer is obtained by removing the gelatin dispersant adhering to the surface of the polymer by allowing a proteolytic enzyme to act upon the polymer in the presence of water. Examples of the proteolytic enzymes include urokinase and chymotripsin obtained from animals, papain and bromelin obtained from plants are pronase and penicillopepsin obtained from microorganisms.
