PURPOSE:The titled preventing agent, having low toxicity, capable of preventing adhesion of fouling organisms such as algae onto surfaces of a dipped part of various structures settled in water, fishing nets, buoys, ships, etc. or onto an inner surface of cooling-water pipe, and containing a polyaminomono carboxylic acid based compound as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A preventing agent containing a polyamino-monocarboxylic acid based compound expressed by formula I (R is 6-18C alkyl), formula II or formula III, which is partly used as a germicide, especially effective against a dysentery bacillus, typhoid bacillus, tubercle bacillus, penicillum, etc. and deemed useful as a general disinfectant, with a low toxicity and no skin irritation as an active ingredient. An aqueous solution or an organic solvent solution of the compound alone or a mixture thereof is impregnated into or coated onto a material used in water, whereby a coating, sparingly soluble into water, and having antifouling effect is easily formed, and the antifouling effect maintains for a relatively long period. However, binding agents such as rosins, cellulosic resins, acrylic resins, etc. are preferably used along with the compound to improve both an adhesivity to the material used in water and durability of the antifouling effect.
