RECOGNIZING DEVICE FOR HANDWRITTEN CHARACTER

PURPOSE:To improve character recognition precision by providing a KATAKANA (square form of Japanese syllabary) priority area to a character entry frame set on an input tablet and collating characters writing in this area with KATAKANA preferentially. CONSTITUTION:The character entry frame 9 is provided with the KATAKANA priority area 10 for specifying the input of KATAKANA character. Normal characters are inputted in the character entry frame 9 and in this case, the dictionary matching of general characters except KATAKANA is performed prior to the dictionary matching of KATAKANA characters. The KATAKANA priority area 10 is utilized when KATAKANA characters from a general character entry frame 9 is not read properly; and when KATAKANA characters regarding the misread are handwritten, the dictionary matching of the KATAKANA characters is performed preferentially.
