The invention relates to a folding door for rail vehicles with a step which is located behind the plane of the body of the vehicle and, in order to save space, is located in the swivel area of the sub-leaves of the door. It was known to provide recesses in the sub-leaves and to close the openings by flaps which are pushed up by the step. Since these flaps are liable to faults, the object of the invention is to simplify their function and to reduce the maintenance requirements. The object is achieved in that each closure flap is connected at its left end and right end to the sub-leaves via hinges, in that the closure flap is elastically deformable in its central region, in that the two halves of the flap enclose an obtuse angle when the door is closed and in that the halves of the flap form a parallelogram with the sub-leaves when the door is opened. <IMAGE>
