Electric screwdriver/nut-runner with an electric motor, by means of the shaft of which a turning tool inserted into a chuck can be driven via gearing. Serving as electric motor is a single-phase synchronous motor with permanent-magnetic rotor, the pull-out torque of which establishes together with the gear transmission ratio the maximum torque output of the screwdriver/nut-runner. A ratchet mechanism is provided which prevents the tool from running back after the pulling out of the motor. <IMAGE>
