PURPOSE:To improve the color reproducibility and to reduce the memory capacity required for this improvement and to simplify hardware by performing color information conversion in accordance with equations of higher degree. CONSTITUTION:ROMs61-69 are accessed by coloir component gradation data Ri, Gi, and Bi read from an original to read out functional values f1(Ri), f2(Gi), f3(Bi), f4(Ri), f5(Gi), f6(Bi), f7(Ri), f8(Gi), and f9(Bi) of functions of higher degree, which correspond to gradation data and indicate Y, M, and C, from ROM61-69, and the sum of values f1(Ri), f2(Gi), and f3(Bi), the sum of values f4(Ri), f5(Gi), and f6(Bi), and the sum of values f7(Ri), f8(Gi), and f9(Bi) are obtained by an adder 7 to obtain recording gradation data Yi, Mi and Ci. Thus, the processing speed is high, and the required memory capacity of ROMs is small, and converted information are obtained by two or more masking equations.
