PURPOSE:To enable optimum color printing to be performed by detecting an ambient temperature of a thermal head and controlling the drive of the thermal head according to detection results and the color of color material. CONSTITUTION:A controlling section 60 reads the ambient temperature data of a thermal head 8 from a temperature detector 68, and turns 'ready' display ON on a display panel 29 if the ambient temperature is below a predetermined level. At the same time, a copy display lights up. Next, a pulse motor 4 is driven to excite a solenoid 12 and press the thermal head 8 against a platen. Thus a thermal transfer ribbon is enabled to run with paper. Next, if 'H' signal is outputted from a ribbon detector 27, the ribbon stops to set the head of yellow. After this process, a pulse width is decided by the relation-ship between temperature data and yellow, i.e. temperature and transfer density and the number of pulses of a pulse motor 4 is counted. Simultaneously colors R, G, B are converted to signals corresponding to yellow by a color conversion 6 and these signals are transmitted for transfer. |
