The invention relates to a headlight cleaning system with a reservoir container (9) with cleaning fluid (10) and a pressure generating device (11) for conveying the cleaning fluid (10). A spray device comprises at least one nozzle (20) and one nozzle carrier (18), the latter being of telescopic design and being movable out of a position of rest in which it is countersunk in the body of the vehicle into a working position in a region in front of a headlight lens (3). This movement is performed with the aid of the pressure of the cleaning fluid (10). For this purpose, a piston (15) with piston rod (16) is pushed into the working position in the pressure space (17) of a cylinder (14) in such a way that the spray nozzle (20) moves in front of the headlight lens (3) and is directed onto it. The piston rod (16) is hollow, open towards the pressure space (17) and serves as a line for the cleaning fluid (10). An excess pressure valve (21) does not release the line of the fluid to the spray nozzle (20) until the piston rod (16) is extended. If the headlight cleaning system or the pump (11) as pressure generating device is switched off, the cleaning fluid (10) becomes unpressurised, the excess pressure valve (21) closes and the piston rod (16) is moved back into its position of rest with the aid of a restoring spring (not illustrated), the fluid located in the pressure space (17) being forced back into the reservoir vessel (9).
