PURPOSE:To improve sealing ability of a gasket by reducing the contacting area with the gasket around a communicating duct between a water jacket of a closed deck type cylinder block and its cylinder head's water jacket. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder head (H) is doubly combined on the deck surface 8 of a closed deck type cylinder block 8 by a gasket (G). Open spaces 12, 13 are formed between the cylinder block (B) and the cylinder head (H) around a communicating duct 11 to connect a water jacket 6 of the cylinder block (B) with a water jacket 10 of the cylinder head (H). this increases surface pressure of the cylinder block (B) and the cylinder head (H) on the gasket (G) so that sealing ability by the gasket (G) can be improved without increasing fastening force between the block (B) and the head (H). |
