The invention relates to an insulating panel for the heat insulation of steep-pitched roofs between the rafters, the width of which panel can be adapted to the distances between the rafters. Across its width, the panel is composed of a plurality of part-pieces connected to one another, of a core piece and of a plurality of disc-shaped edge pieces which, for the most part, are attached to the core piece to the right and left thereof. The connection between the part-pieces is such that said connection can be released without difficulty. Thickness, quantity and arrangement of the edge pieces are selected such that all required widths can be achieved by removing edge pieces. Elevations and depressions which provide sealed joints can be provided on the end surfaces. In some cases, the core piece is rebated along its length and, in other cases, the variable insulating panel has a sound-insulating layer which may also be a plaster support. In application, enough edge pieces are removed to permit the width of the insulating panel slightly to exceed that of the space between the rafters, with the result that said panel can be pushed into the space between the rafters with stressing force, this resulting in sealed joints with respect to the rafters.
