PURPOSE:To perform thermal transfer while using a small amount of a transfer ribbon through a simple mechanism, by a construction wherein a ribbon-driving means for taking up a transfer ribbon and a head-driving means for moving a thermal head are driven by the same motor, and the ribbon-driving means is provided with a one-way clutch. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer tibbon feeder for use in printing a digital display part of an X-Y plotter or the like, when a pulse motor 1 is rotated CW, the thermal head 9 is moved rightward. At this time, the head 9 is pressed against a paper 11, and energy is controlledly impressed on the head 9, whereby desired characters or character trains 12 are transferred onto the paper 11. A pulley 13 for the transfer ribbon 19 is also fitted to a shaft 2 of the pulse motor 1 to take up the ribbon 19 through a belt 14. The one-way clutch 81 does not transmit torque to a pulley shaft 70 at the time of CCW rotation of a pulley 17 but transmits torque only at the time of CW rotation of a pulley 17 but transmits torque only at the time of CW rotation of the pulley 17 to take up the ribbon 19. |
