PURPOSE:To obtain the titled universal joint outer ring with good productivity by subjecting to ironing or swaging after repsetting a round bar shaped blank, forming the blank consisting of the cup part enlarging the opening part and a shut and giving the cross groove having a draft on the inner face of the cup part at the same time. CONSTITUTION:A blank material 1 is obtained by extruding forwardly a shaft 2 after making a round bar in a drum shape with upsetting and by extruding backwardly out a cup part 3 simultaneously. The inclination alpha deg. of the cup part 3 and the groove width correction amount beta deg. of the groove part 4 are determined so that the groove part 4 is not made in an under-cut, i.e., in order to give a proper draft to the groove part 4 in the blank material 1 and the correction amount l is decided with taking into consideration the elongation in the axial direction by the ironing or swaging further. Consequently the universal joint outer ring having the cross groove shown by a dotted line is obtd. by performing the swaging by the alpha deg. with performing the ironing or swaging of the outer side of the cup part 3 in the second stage. |
