NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1 is H, hydroxyl; n is 0, 1; both of a and b are H, lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:N-[(4,4-Dimethyl-6-oxo-1-cyclohexenyl)methyloxycarbonyl-]-daunomy cin. USE:Carcinostatic agent. PREPARATION:For example, daunomycin or adriamycin of formula II is allowed to react with a compound of formula III such as 2-(p-nitrophenoxycarbonyloxy) methyl-5,5-dimethyl-cyclo-2-hexene, preferably in an amount of 4-5 equivalents based on the compound of formula II, in an inert solvent, preferably DMF, at room temperature for 1-4 days. When the starting material is an acid ad duct, 1 equivalent amount of a tertiarya amine such as triethylamine is added to the reaction mixture.
