PURPOSE:To enable a two-dimensional sensor to be reused in an electron microscope by photoelectrically detecting the light emitted from the sensor and thereafter making the sensor release the remaining energy by irradiating it with erasing light from its source. CONSTITUTION:The energy of an electron beam 2 which carries the enlarged scattered image 8b of a specimen 8 is stored in a cumulative fluorescent sheet 11 arranged in an image plane. The sheet 11 is two-dimensionally scanned by a deflected excitation light beam 12a to emit an accelerated phosphorescence with the intensity corresponding to the level of electron beam energy. An electrical signal from a photomultiplier 15 sensing the accelerated phosphorescence is subjected to an image processing 22 and then to an image reproducing 23. After a reproduced image has been read, an optical shutter 24 between the photomultiplier 15 and an optical filter glass 20 is closed, a mirror 17 is stood in a beam path 12a, and an erasing light source 16 is energized. Erasing light from the light source 16 is irradiated on the surface of the sheet 11.
