PURPOSE:To eliminate coloring and impurities by allowing the lower alcohol ester of a higher fatty acid to react with more than equivalent alkanolamine in the presence of a catalyst of alkali metals, etc. and then with alkylene oxide. CONSTITUTION:The lower alcohol ester of a higher fatty acid is allowed to react with more than equivalent alkanolamine in the presence of a catalyst of alkali metals or alkali metal compds. Then after excess alkanolamine is removed, alkylene oxide is allowed to react at 60-100 deg.C to obtain a light-colored polyoxyalkylene-type surfactant. The surfactant has a structure shown by the formula (R1 is a 6-22C higher fatty acid residue, R2 is hydrogen or a methyl group, AO is a 2-3C oxyalkylene group, and (n) stands for 1-50 interger). |
