PURPOSE:To convert the density of a recording image by selecting a threshold value or threshold value matrix properly according to the specification of a density position. CONSTITUTION:When image information BS of an original read by a scanner is converted into a binary signal by space filter processing using the threshold value matrix through a half-tone processing circuit 13, seven stages of threshold value matrixes are prepared and an optional threshold value matrix is selected according to a density position command DCS to perform density conversion. In concrete, data on seven threshold values are stored in a ROM and data on a specific threshold value is read out of the ROM by using the density position command DCS as an address, so that the image information BS of the original is converted into the binary signal while compared with the read threshold value data. In this case, as the threshold value is higher and higher, emphasis to the side of black '1' is placed and the density of the recording image increases.
