NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R1 is -C(CH3)=CH-CH3, formula II; R2 is H, acetyl; when R2 is H, R1 is -C(CH3)=CH-CH3]. EXAMPLE:5',6'-Dehydrokidamicin. USE:A carcinostatic agent: it has reduced side-effects with low toxicity. PREPARATION:An antibiotic of formula III is irradiated with ultraviolet rays to give the compound of formula I. The compound of formula I shows powerful antitumor activity against cultured leukemia cell L1210. The compound of formu la I is obtained by irradiation of a starting antibiotic such as kidamycin, pluramycin or neopluramycin with ultraviolet rays in the form of a solution or suspension in an inert solvent. The ultraviolet irradiation is effected using TOMI-SEIKO TV400 under conditions of 100V, 15W for 1-2 hours. |
