A process for continuously filtering liquids, the liquid flowing upwards on a downwardly movable granular filter medium, expediently a sand bed, and the filtered liquid being continuously discharged from the liquid space present above the filter medium. In a process of this type, in particular, the speed of the filter medium is to be improved and the washing is to be separately controllable, in order to ensure as a result an adequate regeneration. This is ensured according to the invention in that the filter medium saturated with filtrate at the base of the granular bed is conducted at a controlled rate through vertical transport pipes and is raised above the liquid bed by the controlled part-stream passed into the transport pipes from the untreated liquid entering into the filter section, then, separated from the transport liquid, is returned by gravity to the upper part of the filter bed, the filter medium being washed in countercurrent with the aid of filtered liquid conducted upwards by passing through air, and the contaminated washing liquid being discharged together with the transport liquid. |
