PURPOSE:To make curvature and slippage in a line of folding paper detectable automatically in an accurate manner, by installing one optical sensor in a folder, while making an edge position of a side edge part of the folding paper during conveyance so as to be measured plural times at time intervals. CONSTITUTION:At a measuring spot (m) on a chopper table 1, each edge position of folding paper Pa during conveyance and a side end part of the folding paper Pb conveyed uo to a front stopper 4. And, with two times of measurement at the spot (m) on the table 1, first a side edge part Sa of the folding paper Pa is detected, then the edge position of a side edge part Sb of the folding paper Pb is detected respectively, these positions are made for a criterion when chopper folding is carried out in a correct position and attitude. Next, when a folding failure occurs, folding paper P slips its position in a parallel direction with the front of the front stopper 4, while the edge position to be detected at both side end pats of the folding paper differs from the criterion position, and when such a folding failure that an angle of a polygonal line is bent occurs, the folding paper P is not yet made fully contact with the front stopper 4 whereby the edge position to be detected at these side end parts Sa and Sb also differs from the criterion position, so that it is judged as slippage due to a difference between the edge position of these side end parts and the criterion position.
