1,195,914. Preparation of olefin sulphonates. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 24 May, 1967 [31 May, 1966], No. 24087/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] Alkenyl sulphonates with or without the presence of hydroxyalkane sulphonates and disulphonates are prepared by reacting a C 8-25 olefin feedstock with sulphur trioxide, reacting the reaction mixture with sulphuric acid or oleum and then neutralizing. In an example, an alpha-olefin feedstock containing about 88% of terminally unsaturated straight chain olefins having an average molecular weight of 230 and an average chain length of 15-18 carbon atoms (C 15 = 24%, C 16 = 29%, C 17 = 30% and C 18 = 17%, approximately) and having a boiling range at atmospheric pressure of 265-300‹ C. (with 11% residue) is continuously reacted with sulphur trioxide. The resulting mixture is treated with 90% aqueous H 2 SO 4 and neutralized with hot aqueous NaOH.
|
