PRODUCTION OF HIGH-STRENGTH SINTERED ALUMINUM ALLOY BODY

PURPOSE:To produce a sintered Al body having good dimensional accuracy, light weight and high strength at a high yield by mixing lubricating agent powder with quickly cooled and solidified powder of an Al alloy at an adequate ratio, heating and pressurizing the mixture and sintering the resulted green compact having high density. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating agent powder L having 100-300 deg.C m.p. is added to 0.2-10vol% to the quickly cooled and solidified powder A consisting of the Al alloy and the powders are thoroughly agitated and mixed by using a mixer until the two powders are uniformly dispersed. The resulted powder mixture is chaged into a recess 6 formed of a molding hole 4 of a die 2 and a lower punch 5 of a plunger die 1 and is heated to the m.p. of the powder L or above by a heater3 to melt the powder L so that approximately the entire surface of the powder A is coated with the molten lubricating material Ls and the strength of the powder A is decreased. The above- mentioned mixture is pressurized in this state by the lower punch 5 and an upper punch 5 to obtain the green compact G. The green com- pact G is disposed in a sintering furnace 8 and is heated for about 0.5-5hr at about 450-550 deg.C by which the sintered body is obtd.
