POLISHING DISK FOR OPTICAL CONNECTOR

PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of transmission quality by providing a soft material having <=100kg/mm<2> Shore hardness and >=20mum thickness on a plane polishing disk, providing further a polishing sheet contg. abrasive grains and polishing the plug end face of an optical connector. CONSTITUTION:The soft material 12 having <=100kg/cm<2> Shore hardness and >=20mum thickness is provided on the plane polishing disk 13 and the polishing sheet 11 contg. the abrasive grains is provided on the material 12. A plug 2 of the optical connector is pressed on the sheet 11 and is polished by said sheet. The end face of the plug 2 is pushed into the sheet 11 by the pressure during polishing so that the part near the outside circumference of the plug 2 end face contacts with the sheet 11. The part nearer the outside circumference of the plug 2 end face is therefore more precedently polished and the end face of the optical fiber 1 existing at the center of the plug 2 end face is polished after the plug end face 2 near the fiber 1 is polished. The end face of the fiber 1 is therefore polished to a convex spherical shape and the deterioration of the transmission quality is prevented.
