PURPOSE:The titled polymer which can show good heat stability and flow at 300-400 deg.C and good melt moldability, having a structure in which a specified structural units A and a specified structural unit B are alternately bonded with each other. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic aromatic polyamide-imide polymer having a structure in which a structural unit (A) of formula I and a structural unit (B) of formula II are alternately bonded with each other. In the formula, Z is a trifunctional aromatic group in which two of the three functional groups are bonded to an adjacent carbon atom, R1 is a 1-4C alkyl or a halogen, Y is a group of formula III or IV and is 0 or 1-4. For example, this polymer can be produced by an acid chloride process in which an aromatic tricarboxylic acid anhydride chloride is reacted with an aromatic diamine. This polymer can exhibit good heat stability and flow at 300-400 deg.C, has good melt moldability and can give high-performance materials and moldings at a high production rate be extrusion or injection molding.
