PURPOSE:To drain off and remove water in a screw conveyor including a drainning off water means for washing sand of a sewerage processing place or the like, according to a method wherein a trough bottom placed above a water overflow level and the side of th trough in the vicinity of the water overflow level are opened and communicated with each other. CONSTITUTION:Earth and sand or the like are supplied in a separating tank 11 with water from an outflow trough 14, being settled, separated, and conveyed toward an upper portion along a screw trough 12 by means of a crew blade 10b. In this conveying process, a conveying section is set to right or left side in accordance with the rotary direction of the screw blade 10b, water being removed through a water removing hole 16 placed above a water overflow level a and is returned to a returning exit 17 mounted in the vicinity of the level a through a drainpipe 18 because water have the characteristics to be conveyed an opposite side. According to the above constitution, water can be drained off and removed.
