PURPOSE:To prevent the MR element of a thin film type magnetic head having a yoke from making Barkhausen noise by providing a laminated structure of Ni-Fe/SiO or SiO2/Ni-Fe to the MR element. CONSTITUTION:When sense current is supplied to thin Ni-Fe film 16 as the 1st layer and a thin Ni-Fe film 18 as the 2nd layer in a direction of an axis of easy magnetization shown by an arrow S, that is, in the direction of parallel arrows M3, M4, a bias magnetic field J4 acts on the 2nd layer by the sense current M3 in the 1st layer, and a bias magnetic filed J3 acts on the 1st layer by the sense current M4 in the 2nd layer. The magnetic fields J3, J4 are parallel to each other in the opposite directions. Since this self-bias also acts on MRE through a yoke, the two layers are biased in the same direction. assuming sense current Is flows through the Ni-Fe film 16 as the 1st layer of the MRE15 and the Ni-Fe film 18 as the 2nd layer from the front side of this paper to the rear side, an induced magnetic field acts on the MRE15 through the yoke, so the MRE15 is biased in the direction of arrows C, D. |
