1,130,798. Phosphorus-containing starch derivative. NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP. 17 Nov., 1966 [17 Nov., 1965], No. 51641/66. Heading C3U. [Also in Division D2] A starch derivative containing chemically introduced cationic groups and anionic orthophosphate mono-ester groups, the molar ratio of anionic: cationic groups being 0.01-4.5:1, and the D.S. of the cationic groups being 0À005-1À5 is made by conventional techniques for introducing cationic and orthophosphate groups, the introductions being effected in any order. The cationic group may be any amino, or phosphonium or sulphonium. In examples starch is, in either order, diethylaminoethylated using aqueous diethylaminoethyl chloride hydrochloride, and phosphorylated with dihydrogen monosodium phosphate. Many starches, including high arcylose, are specified. Diethylamino propyl chloride hydrochloride and ethylene imine may also be used as sources of cationic groups. The derivatives are useful in papermaking (see Division D2).
|
