<p>1,185,386. Abrasive scouring cleanser. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 17 May, 1967 [18 May, 1966], No. 22965/67. Heading C5D. An abrasive scouring cleanser composition in the form of a dry powder comprises at least 45% of a water-insoluble inorganic siliceous abrasive material having a particle size of less than 0-5 mm., 0À1-50% of a dry water-soluble compound which, when dissolved in water, liberates hypobromite ions, and 0À5-15% of a water-soluble organic detergent stable in the presence of the hypobromite-liberating compound. Suitable hypobromite-liberating compounds are N-bromoimides (e.g. N-bromosuccinimide, N-bromocyanuric acids and salts thereof and N-bromohydantoins), tribromomelamine, lithium hypobromite, brominated trisodium phosphate (i.e. reaction product of sodium hypobromite and trisodium phosphate), sodium p-toluenesulphonate-bromamine-trihydrate, calcium hypobromite and N-bromo-N<SP>1</SP>- chloroimides. The abrasive material may be silica, feldspar, pumice, volcanic ash, diatomaceous earth, bentonite, talc or mixtures thereof. The organic detergent may be anionic, cationic, non-ionic or amphoteric and examples of each class are given. The cleanser composition may contain additional ingredients such as inorganic builder salts, sequestering agents (e.g. nitrilotriacetic acid, ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid, diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid and their salts), fillers (e.g. wood pulp, sawdust, magnesite or whiting), sodium carboxymethylcellulose, anti-caking agents and optical brighteners.</p> |
