HEATED JUNCTION THERMOCOUPLE LEVEL MEASUREMENT APPARATUS

A liquid level sensor for a pressure vessel includes a series of axially spaced elongated heat conducting housing(36). Each housing contains a heat element(64) extending over a level sensing range and two thermocouple junctions(66, 68). Part of the housing is enclosed by a splash guard(72). The housings are surrounded by a support tube. The sensor monitors the level of coolant, esp. water, above the core of a nuclear reactor. Direct accurate information is provided during both normal and abnormal reactor operation.
