PURPOSE:To transmit securely original picture data by transmitting picture data to a picture processor for transmitting original picture data and equipping a means for recording data on said processor. CONSTITUTION:When the original is set to a paper feed part 1A and a transmission start is instructed by the switch operation of an operating part 9, a control part 3 first drives and controls the paper feed part 1A to transport the original until the top of the initial original reaches before the read sensor of a reading part 1. The original is transported by the prescribed amount, and picture data of one prescribed line is read by the reading part 1. The read-out data is provisionally stored in a memory 4, subjected to the processing necessary for transmission of encoding, modulated by a MODEM5 and transmitted to a circuit 7 through a network controller NCU6. The read-out picture data in the memory 4 is converted into a recordable format by a recording part 2, after which it is transmitted and recorded in the recording part 2.
