MANUFACTURE OF OPTICAL CONNECTOR FERRULE

PURPOSE:To make possible efficient on-site installation by caulking a metallic pipe forming a ferrule inserted therein with an optical fiber core and fixing the optical fiber to the ferrule. CONSTITUTION:The metallic pipe 8 is inserted and held to the mold surface of a metallic mold 12 and a forming pin 10 is inserted into the pipe 5 and is passed through the supporting hole of a metallic mold 11. The pin is held in the state of projecting the same from the mold 11 and the top end of the pin 10 is held inserted into a positioning hole 14, then the mold 11 and the mold 12 are mated with each other in this state. The pin 10 is so dispersed and sized that the large-diameter part thereof projects from the top end of the metallic pipe but that the other end does not project together with the top end of the pipe 5 from the end of the metallic pipe supported by the mold 12. The pipe 8 and the pipe 5 are partly superposed and exist on the same axis. The preparation for molding is completed in the above-mentioned manner and thereafter a resin is poured through a resin pouring hole 13. Then the ferrule molded integrally with a collar part and inside and outside metallic pipes 5, 8 by the molten resin is manufactured. The pin 10 is thereafter removed.
