PURPOSE:To make possible the measurement of the actual length of an image within an image plane by displaying a scale formed in accordance with the actual length of a subject on the display image plane in superposition on the image. CONSTITUTION:A tubular member in which an endoscope body 10 is inserted has a uniform diameter and the body 10 is assumed to be positioned to the center thereof and be inserted therein. The central point is therefore the remotest distance in the image plane and the images further from the center are the images of the closer distances. A concentrical circle centering at the center of the image plane is obtd. when the points equidistant from the center are connected. The scale consisting of the concentrical circles Q0-Qn centering at the center of the image screen is therefore indicated on the image screen. The radii P0-Pn of each concentrical circle are so selected that the difference in the radius between the respective concentrical circles are of the same distance on the actual tube. The length in the axial direction of the tube is measured if the scale is displayed in the above-mentioned manner.
