Novel alpha -hydroxyethyl-4-t-alkylcyclohexanes of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R1 represents a tert-C6- or C7-alkyl radical, where the tert- C atom is bonded to the cyclohexane ring, and a process for the preparation of these novel compounds I are described. The novel compounds I have sandalwood notes and can therefore be used as perfumes, e.g. in the preparation of perfume compositions. |
