PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance useful as an intermediate raw material of perfumery base, agricultural chemical, etc., from an aryl halogenated methyl compound, carbon monoxide and hydrogen, in one step, in improved yield, by reacting the above components using a catalyst consisting of a rhodium compound, etc., in the presence of a basic reagent. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is produced by reacting an aryl halogenated methyl compound with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in a solvent such as acetonitrile, using a rhodium compound or a rhodium compound and a cobalt compound as a catalyst, in the presence of a basic reagent such as sodium carbonate, etc., at 50-200 deg.C, preferably 80-160 deg.C. The amount of the catalyst is preferably 10<-4>-10<-1>g-atom per 1mol of the aryl halogenated methyl compound in terms of metallic rhodium. In the case of using a cobalt compound as a component of the catalyst, the atomic ratio of cobalt to rhodium is preferably 1/100-100/1. |
