The invention relates to improvements made to the method and to the device for unreeling metal wire, especially steel, copper or aluminium-alloy wire, which are described in the main application. These improvements consist in disposing the reels 2 to 6 on a substantially horizontal cradle 1 and then exerting, at least periodically, a thrust on the rear face 18 of the final reel 6, especially by means of a pusher 90. Each thrust is preferably exerted momentarily and then relaxed so as to slacken the turns. Application to the industry of wire-drawing equipment for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. <IMAGE>
