This device comprises a rotor and a stator, the mixture of gas and liquid being driven to rotate by the rotor and flowing in a radial direction, then being collected in a diffuser where the gaseous phase and the liquid phase are separated by centrifuging the liquid phase. It is characterised in that it comprises a first exhaust passage P1 for the gaseous phase and a second passage P2, separate from the first passage P1, the said second passage P2 serving for discharge of the liquid phase having collected on the periphery of the inside surface of the stator forming a continuous phase, and then being discharged through a second passage P2 separate from the passage P1. The invention has applications particularly in the compression of natural gas. <IMAGE>
