PURPOSE:To make battery assembly easy and surely electrically connect a negative electrode to a negative terminal plate by directly connecting one end of a cylindrical negative electrode to the inner surface of a negative terminal plate. CONSTITUTION:A rod-like lithium negative electrode 30 wrapped with a separator 16 is arranged on the inner side of a positive mix 18. Nonaqueous electrolyte 22 is poured in a positive can 12. The opening of the positive can 12 is sealed with a negative terminal 26 around which a ring-shaped sealing gasket 28 is fixed. The rod-like lithium negative electrode 30 is as long as it reach the inner surface of the negative terminal plate 26 and its upper end having flange 30a is fixed to the inner surface of the terminal plate 26. Thereby, the negative electrode 30 is directly electrically connected to the terminal plate 26. Forming the negative electrode and electrical connection of the negative electrode to the negative terminal plate is made simple and electrical connection is improved.
