968,293. Two-part couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. Feb. 9, 1962 [Feb. 17, 1961], No. 5040/62. Heading H2E. A socket connector for a printed circuit panel consists of Z-shaped contacts, such as 6 and 7, mounted in an insulating body 1, the arms of the contacts each having a longitudinal slot 6a and a central bend 13 to provide four contact surfaces 12a, 12b, 12c, 12d. As shown, the end of the arm 10 of each contact is reversely bent and formed with two cylindrical sockets 18, 19. The contacts are mounted in body 1 in pairs on opposite sides of a, longitudinal groove 46, and held in position by cap 3. Groove 46 receives the printed circuit board 40. Wires attached to plugs with a peripheral groove are connected to the sockets, dimples 22 holding the plugs in place. A circuit board 43 with bulges 44, 45, which clip into the mediate bends 13 of the contacts, may be used. A key 50 may be inserted into the connector to polarize the socket connector. Modifications are described in which each plug is held in a single socket by (a) a tongue, formed from the end of the socket contact, bearing against a shoulderon the plug, Fig. 3 (not shown), and (b) a pair of tongues formed as part of the plug and bearing against a shoulder formed at the rear end of the body cavity, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a further modification, the plug is replaced by a socket, which mates with the end of the contact strip, and has a single tongue engaging a shoulder in the body, Fig. 5 (not shown). |
