PURPOSE:To inhibit the stripping of a paint film or a lining from the surface of zinc or zinc alloy coated steel or uncoated steel by the corrosion of the steel surface by forming a metallic sulfide layer on the steel surface before coating with paint or lining. CONSTITUTION:Zinc or zinc alloy coated steel or uncoated steel is brought into contact with an aqueous soln. contg. hydrogen sulfide at about 0.01ppm - saturation concn. or a gas contg. about 0.01-90% hydrogen sulfide to form a metallic sulfide layer on the surface. The contact temp. is regulated to 5-90 deg.C. The steel surface having the metallic sulfide layer is coated or lined with epoxy resin, urethane resin or the like. Thus, the stripping resistance of the resulting paint film is improved and high corrosion preventiveness is provided to the steel.
