PURPOSE:To provide hot workability to free-cutting oxygen-free copper contg. Pb, Bi or Te as a free-cutting element by adding a small amount of Ni, Sn or Sb to the oxygen-free copper. CONSTITUTION:This free-cutting oxygen-free copper consists of 0.05-1.00wt% one or more among Pb, Bi and Te, 0.01-0.5wt% one or more among Ni, Sn and Sb, and the balance essentially Cu. In the composition, Ni, Sn and Sb solidify Pb, Bi and Te as free-cutting elements in a finely dispersed state, and the added elements make the free-cutting elements compatible with Cu in the oxygen-free copper. Accordingly, the oxygen-free copper can well show its machinability, and at the same time, hot forgeability can be provided. The oxygen-free copper can maintain high electric conductivity, so it can be utilized as a material for parts for the electronic industry.
