PURPOSE:To realize a slow reproducing free from noise, blurring, and horizontal deviation by deriving a reproducing signal of the prescribed or above level from the storing means instead during the duration of a reproducing signal of a level below the prescribed level. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic heads 1a and 1b are connected to a switch 4 via amplifiers 2a and 2b respectively. The switch 4 switches the signals from the respective heads and outputs in accordance with a head switching signal HSW, and supplies to a switch 9 and at the same time to a level comparator 5 and an A/D converter 6. The level comparator 5 compares the signal with the prescribed level, and as depending on its result, generates a control signal to switch a switch 9. Meanwhile, the A/D-converted signal is stored in a digital memory 7. When the level of the reproduced signal does not satisfy the prescribed level, a reproducing signal is outputted from the digital memory 7 in accordance with the controlling signal from the level comparator 5, and is supplied to a signal processing circuit for reproduction through the switch 9.
