To combine the advantages of a rigid rollover bar and a passenger compartment which is completely open at the top in vehicles, the sections (1) of the rollover bar are connected to the side walls (2) of the vehicle structure in a foldable and rotatable fashion and are movably connected to the transverse support with a locking facility, so that the rollover bar reliably withstands the loads which occur in an upright operating position and can be pivoted into the non-operative position behind the rear seating assembly through a pivot (g) on the inside of the side wall of the vehicle, so that the said rollover bar rests in a positive manner against the insides of the side walls of the vehicle structure and does not protrude beyond the upper edge of the latter. <IMAGE>
