An ignition system for combustible cartridges (7) ensures that the ignition of the cartridges (7) takes place independently of the distance of the cartridge (7) from the propulsion-charge ignitor and independently of the pressure prevailing. This is achieved by means of a donor charge in the propulsion-charge ignitor for producing a hot jet (12) which is rich in particles, and by means of a receiver charge (17) having a high input sensitivity. For this purpose, the receiver charge (17) is fitted in a centre tube (16) (which is open on both sides) of the propulsion-charge cartridge (7). <IMAGE>
