<p>PURPOSE:To recover advantageously mercury after improving the evaporation efficiency thereof and to make waste non-pollutive by adding an alkali to the mercury-contg. waste and heating the waste by utilizing a microwave. CONSTITUTION:Waste batteries, etc., are charged to a pretreatment device 1 by which the batteries, etc. are crushed and fractionated. The electrode parts and electrolyte parts, etc., contg. mercury are fed to a raw material supply tank 2. The alkaline material such as Ca(OH)2 is added at about 0.1-50% to these materials and after the materials are mixed, the materials are charged into a heating furnace 3. The microwave is irradiated from a microwave generator 4 through a waveguide 5 on the materials to heat the same. The materials are then passed through a gas separator 6, by which the gas contg. a high concn. of mercury is separated. The gas is cooled by a cooler 7 and the crude mercury is recovered. The recovered mercury is refined by a refining device 8. The recycle gas from the gas separator 6 is introduced into a heater 3, by which the evaporation of the mercury in the raw material is accelerated.</p> |
