The rolls of a plate flattening machine are mounted in tiltable bearing housings 3, 4 and are each provided with a driving motor 8 which drives the roll through epicyclic reduction gearing, the motors being chosen to have an output appropriate to the expected loading of the individual rolls. Each motor drives a sun wheel (not shown) which in turn meshes with pinions 15 on a planet carrier 10, the pinions meshing with a fixed annulus 9 and with a sleeve 13 splined to the roll neck. |
