PURPOSE:To correct a rejected character easily by displaying the arrangement of characters before and after the rejected character on the display screen of an OCR in addition to the original picture of the rejected character. CONSTITUTION:When the operator advances a cursor on a character code buffer display screen and specifies a rejected character displayed by '?', a processor 1 calculates a field picture starting address concerned which is stored in a field control table 23 in a main storage device 2 and a starting address of the image data of the rejected character in the picture buffer 71 of a picture memory 7 from the cursor position of the rejected character displayed by '?' on the display device 4. When the operator depresses a picture selection key on a keyboard 9, a window 42 having sufficient size for displaying the original picture before the recognition of the rejected character is formed on a proper position over or under the rejected character.
