NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or hydroxy; n is 3 or 4). EXAMPLE:3',4'-Trimethylene-4-hydroxydiphenylsulfone. USE:A heat-sensitive recording material. A recording material having excellent high-speed recording characteristics and resistant to plasticizer and diazo- developing liquid can be obtained without lowering the whiteness of the highlight part by using the compound as a color-developing agent. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting p-phenol sulfonyl halide of formula II with the benzene derivative of formula III in the presence of a condensation agent (e.g. anhydrous aluminum chloride) in a solvent such as benzene at 5-150 deg.C.
