PURPOSE:To provide a plasticizer for elastomers having a particular structure, producing less volatile vulcanized rubber with the plasticizer incorporated during vulcanization, and showing good heat-aging and low-temp. properties of the vulcanizate. CONSTITUTION:The intended plasticizer is formed from a diester compd. of the formula (wherein R, R' is alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, polyoxyalkylene ether group, etc.; n, m is 0 or a positive integer). Butyl, hexyl, 2-ethlhexyl, octyl or stearyl group is pref. as R, R' in the formula. Said diester compd. is useful for plasticizers for elastomers such as natural or synthetic rubber (e.g., chloroprene rubber or styrene/butadiene rubber). The amt. of diester compd. incorporated is about 1-100pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. elastomer.
